Historic House, £3.60-£8.25

Thea Young

Near Banbury,
OX17 2SD

Sulgrave Manor builds on its recent success as a great place to visit with all the family. The Manor has been long listed for the 2011 Guardian Family Friendly Award, led by the charity Kids in Museums.

Sulgrave Manor is a superb example of a modest manor house of Shakespeare's time and was the Birthplace of George Washington's ancestors. Visitors take a short stroll through three centuries of history with friendly and informative guides seeing, in the sensitively restored room, a wonderful collection of 16th to 18th century furniture, textiles and artefacts displayed in a natural and welcoming atmosphere.

The house is surrounded by formal gardens designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield, an attraction in their own right.

The Manor is a stunning venue for weddings and celebrations as well as offering meeting and conference facilities.
