Packwood House's brand new café and visitor reception building will be open from Thursday 21 November 2013. The design of the new building was inspired by Packwood’s historic house which is owned and run by the National Trust.
The new Garden Kitchen café will be open all year round, serving fresh, seasonal food, including some produce from the property’s own kitchen garden.
The 18th century delft tiles in Packwood’s stunning Ireton bathroom have been the inspiration for a contemporary range of delft tiles, created in partnership with Fired Earth, featuring scenes from Packwood’s past and present which have been used to decorate the new building.
Graham Baron Ash, the former owner of Packwood House, collected hundreds of the distinctive 18th century blue and white tiles, which he used to cover an entire wall as well as the sides of his bath, creating a vivid ‘wallpaper’.
The contemporary tiles were hand painted for Fired Earth and depict characters found at Packwood today, including gardeners cutting the famous yews, Freddie the cat, and visitors playing hide and seek in the yew garden – as well as Graham Baron Ash himself.
The new Packwood Delft will be available to purchase from Fired Earth. Visit www.firedearth.com for details.
Lucy Reid, General Manager at Packwood House, said: “The new tiles make a link between the history of the house and the new building. We’ve really enjoyed working with the team at Fired Earth at it feels very special to have such a personal touch on our new building.
“Packwood has never had a café before, so we have a brand new catering team who’ve been busy developing the new menus and we’re all looking forward to welcoming visitors here for the first time.”
