Leisure Drives

Ideal for visitors on a short break, these circular routes allow you to discover for yourself the hidden secrets of Shakespeare Country. Explore market towns with their individual character and charm, relax in welcoming pubs with traditional ales and home cooked food, and discover peaceful churches, historic attractions and a range of craft and antique centres. Each tour allows you to explore the countryside, visit attractions and, of course, take refreshment.

The routes are circular and anti-clockwise in direction. Although we suggest a starting place, you can join the tour at any point. And why not stay a little longer and do them all? As the tours are not signposted you may wish to buy a more detailed map from our online bookshop.

To make your day really special, why not leave behind your modern car and take the wheel of a British classic Jaguar E Type, MGB Roadster, Triumph TR or Stag with The Open Road.

Please note that Shakespeare Country accepts no responsibility for any errors or omissions in respect of these drives. If you do get lost or have any comments to make please do contact us: info@shakespeare-country.co.uk We hope that you enjoy exploring!

These routes have been put together by members of the South Warwickshire Association of Tourist Attractions. The project has been funded by The Countryside Agency and assisted by Advantage West Midlands.

Arden Tour

The Arden was the name once given to the land north of the River Avon. In Shakespeare's time much of this countryside was covered in the Forest of Arden and this is where, in As You Like It, Shakespeare's Rosalind tutored Orlando in the ways of love. This tour passes through some of Warwickshire's prettiest villages.

Stoneleigh Tour

The Stoneleigh Tour starts from St Nicholas' Park in Warwick and takes you through the historic town and the north of Royal Leamington Spa. It then leads you through rolling Warwickshire countryside to the market town of Southam before heading north to take in Stoneleigh and Kenilworth.

Edgehill Tour

Starting in Warwick, this tour crosses the Fosse Way - built by the Romans from Exeter to Lincoln - and takes you out to Edgehill - with some of the finest views over South Warwickshire.

Stour Tour

This tour starts from Stratford-upon-Avon and takes you through the southern-most part of Warwickshire and the edge of the Cotswolds. This part of South Warwickshire is characterised by gently rolling open countryside.
