The Cotswolds is an area bounded by Bath, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon, and is world famous for the beauty of its towns and villages. In the Cotswold market towns and quiet villages and hamlets you'll find plenty of places to visit and enjoy. The many attractions include museums and galleries, historic houses, gardens and wildlife parks.
The Cotswolds is also designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) which means it is recognised as containing some of Britain's finest countryside. As such it is protected as a special landscape of national importance. The Cotswolds AONB area covers 2038 sq kms (790 sq miles), of which some 80% is farmland.
The Cotswolds towns and villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Chipping Norton, Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh are famous all over the world for their beauty and for being so 'typically English'. There is a wide range of attractions to suit all tastes. Exploring the real Cotswolds at any time of year is a rewarding experience, each season throwing a different light on the ever-changing scene.
In March of 2012 Shakespeare Country worked with The Open Road Classic Car Hire and Visit Britain to film a short video as part of their Great Britain campaign for 2012, aimed at the US marketplace. This involved US travel Writer Mark Murphy driving a 1970 Jaguar E-Type around the Cotswolds, finishing in the Cotswold village of Broadway.
This video advert went live on the web on April 6th 2012 under the title of 'Countryside is Great Britain' with the following caption: "Take a spin with Mark Murphy in a classic Jaguar and cruise around the British countryside. A great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and take in the beautiful scenery."
