The Gardens at Stoneleigh Abbey

The beautiful landscaped gardens at Stoneleigh Abbey are the culmination of around 500 years of works undertaken by the Leigh family in order to improve their surroundings.
They were developed over time by several notable landscape designers, including C.S. Smith, W.A. Nesfield, Percy Cane & most famously, Humphry Repton.

Repton considered Stoneleigh one of his greatest works, as reflected in his Red Book which is on display from time to time within the house.
Improvements included the woodland walk, the newly-restored reflective lake with weirs, deer park, pavilions and statues dotted about the grounds.
Visitors to the gardens can see England’s most picturesque village cricket grounds, the home of Stoneleigh Cricket Club. They can sit in the thatched summer house, explore the grotto in the woodland walk (made from the stones of one of the estate’s old mills) & visit the lovingly tended cemetery for the Leigh family pets. Among the plants are examples of traditional flowering herbs, ancient trees, and decorative bedding plants.
The garden is a truly delightful place to take in some fresh air and the idyllic scenery.

A separate ticket is available for visitors who wish to come to the grounds without entering the house.
This year, the ‘Season Ticket’ makes a welcome return. This is an excellent idea for regular visitors who wish to enjoy the gardens & the tea room without taking guided tours of the house.
