Details

Award-winning gardens and medieval ruins surround Sudeley Castle & Gardens, which sits nestled in the Cotswold Hills on the edge of the historic town of Winchcombe.

Sudeley Castle & Gardens has played host to many royal figures throughout history. It is famously the last home and resting place of Henry VIII's sixth wife, Katherine Parr. Queen of England and Mistress of Sudeley, Katherine lived at the castle after the death of the King, as the wife of Thomas Seymour. Here she was guardian to the young Princess Elizabeth and died tragically after childbirth. An exhibition, with a film narrated by Dr David Starkey, is testament to this exceptional woman. Katherine Parr's tomb rests in St Mary's Church within the Castle grounds; her prayer book, love letter to Thomas Seymour and a lock of her hair feature in the exhibition.

Sudeley's extensive gardens have been lovingly restored and designed to reflect the Castle's fascinating past. The Queens Garden is amongst the finest rose gardens in England, sited on an original Tudor Parterre. A Herbal Healing Walk, echoes the traditional herb gardens that would have been actively used throughout Sudeley's fascinating history. Nine individually designed gardens are a delight of discovery for the visitor; Sir Roddy Llewellyn is the most recent appointment to Sudeley's list of prestigious Garden Design Consultants.

The Pheasantry features a collection of rare birds, with the recent addition of Snowy Owls; a Barn Owl and European Eagle Owl. The children's play area boasts a giant wooden play fort and family picnic area.
