Details

For theatre lovers, now is the time to visit Shakespeare's Stratford. Experience the Royal Shakespeare Company's spectacular 1000 seat Courtyard Theatre, which is the Company’s main performance space whilst the Royal Shakespeare Theatre undergoes transformation.

This remarkable theatre has already won a place in the hearts of many patrons, and was described by the Financial Times as ‘one of the finest theatrical spaces of recent years’. In June 2007, The Courtyard Theatre won an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects and is a contender in this year's Stirling Prize. As well as watching a number of breath-taking performances, visitors to The Courtyard Theatre can also enjoy free tours, revealing a fascinating insight into the backstage world of the RSC.

Summer 2009 sees the start of a new ensemble of RSC actors coming together for two and a half years to further enhance our understanding of what makes great theatre. This summer the RSC Ensemble 2009-2011 will perform six productions. The Winter's Tale, As You Like It and Julius Caesar sit alongside the RSC's Young People's Shakespeare The Comedy of Errors and two new plays, The Drunks by Mikhail and Vyacheslav Durnenkov and The Grain Store by Natalia Vorozhbit, which signal the beginning of a strand of work entitled Revolutions; a major exploration of the culture of Russia and the former Soviet Union countries, including Ukraine .
